The Travelers - card by Elaine Hughes www.quixoticcards.com

From The Archives: A Good Companion Shortens the Longest Road

All too often, with the constant new releases, gorgeous older stamps and images get forgotten.  I often look back over my photo folders at cards made over the past few years, and it occured to me that it might be nice to share the experience.  So, I’ll be scheduling a post each week looking back at previous creations which I feel deserve another turn to shine!

First up is one of my personal favourites, originally blogged on 15th May 2011.

The Travelers - card by Elaine Hughes www.quixoticcards.com

This stamp – The Travelers – captured my heart immediately.  I have a soft spot for all things wolf-related, and romantic gypsy images.  I also love how this card turned out with the beautiful Graphic 45 Le Cirque papers.

I coloured the image with Distress Inks, which was quite a labour of love considering I far prefer markers.  Even so, I was pretty happy with the results.  I do have this image on my list to revisit using markers, when I do it will be interesting to compare!

The sentiment was computer generated, and I thought it fit the image perfectly.  I finished the card off with a couple of my favourite embellishments – a Make it Crafty chipboard corner and a bow tied using the Bow-Easy template.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little peek into the archives!

Hey There!

Hope you’re having a lovely weekend.  The weather has been a bit patchy here, but we’ve been having a nice relaxing time.  Lots of crafting and colouring for me!

I was having fun playing with crafty supplies last night, and had a sudden flash of inspiration!  It’s quite rare for me to sit, colour images and put a card together from start to finish in one sitting, but that’s exactly what I did!  I couldn’t wait to share this one with you all, because it is just TOO cute.

I used one of my favourite Some Odd Girl Stamps clear stamp sets - Hey Kaylee.  Just love Kaylee, such a fun character, and the little accessory stamps in the set are adorable.  SQUEEE!  Love that little snail hitching a ride.

I’ve seen a few cards lately using the negatives from die cutting, and this was perfect for creating the sky to go behind Kaylee and her little friends.  I used MFT Die-Namics Flat Bottom Clouds to cut the cloud shapes from my blue cardstock, and layered over some hammered white card.  Perfect!  I then used the MFT Die-Namics Fresh Cut Grass border die to create the grass.  The sentiment comes from the Hey Kaylee stamp set.  I cut one of the MFT Die-Namics Sentiment Strips from white card, stamped the sentiment and then chopped it in half.

I stamped the images with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Make it Colour Blending Card and coloured with ShinHan Touch Twin Markers before cutting them out to pop up on foam pads in front of my background.  I used the colourless blender pen to help create some texture on the turtle’s shell, which turned out pretty well.

That’s it!  Just a cute little card for today.  Enjoy your Sunday, and I’ll be back tomorrow with another fun project!

That’s it!  Pretty cute, huh?

A little bit of waffle:

I had a great time last weekend colouring and watching films, generally catching up on colouring work that needs to be done, and recharging a little!  I cannot believe how quickly the weeks are flying by, and this last week has been no exception.

I’m seeing a little light at the end of the work tunnel that I need to get through, and then I am hoping to make a few little changes here on the blog to make things a bit more interesting and fun!  So, watch this space. ;-)

My card:

On my card I have used an adorable set from Market Street Stamps – Pawprints On Our Hearts.  So sweet, and of course I am a complete sucker for canine themed stamps!

Noah’s Ark 1st Birthday Card

Our youngest niece recently turned one, so of course, I had to make her a card!  She loves pictures of animals, so I knew I wanted to incorporate them on her card somehow, plus I fancied a bit of a colouring challenge, and one of Crissy Armstrong’s images came to mind!

When I step outside of my comfort zone in colouring, I often study someone else’s work to see how they’ve approached an image, and fairly often that someone happens to be Crissy!  Before I started colouring the image, I studied Crissy’s card.  I loved how Crissy created the cast shadows, and the colours she used, so I attempted to create something similar when colouring.  So, once again, thank you for the fab image and inspiration Crissy!

The image I used is one of Crissy’s digital images, available from Whimsy Stamps – Noah’s Ark.

The image was coloured with ShinHan Touch Twin Markers on Make it Colour Blending Card.  See the pic below for details of the marker colours used.  I used Spellbinders Grand Nestabilities to cut out the circle and scalloped layers, and another Spellbinders die for the pretty frame I used for the sentiment.  Papers are from an old favourite Crate Paper line.  I created an easel card because they always look so good in person, and the recipients always seem to enjoy them (in this case the parents moreso than the child!!).

As a little bonus, I have a video showing the colouring of this image.  There’s no audio, just a “speed colouring” video showing the process – I always find them quite fun to watch, so I hope you at least enjoy it and perhaps find it a little helpful to see where I started colouring and how it progresses.

That’s it for today!  Hope you’re having a great week so far – not long now till the weekend!
