Happy with SCACD Digital

Today’s card is one of my favourites so far this year. Love how bright and HAPPY it is!

The focal image is a digital stamp from the Carmen Medlin for SCACD Digital range. “Alien Butterfly” is perfect for going over the top with fun and bright colour combinations.

SCACD Digi - Alien Butterfly - www.markergeek.com

Alien Butterfly was coloured with Copic Markers on my favourite Make it Colour Blending Card then cut out ready to pop on my card front using foam pads.

This card is A5 (14.8 x 21 cm or approx 6 x 8 inches), so you can see that I printed the butterfly out at a nice size for optimum colouring therapy time. ;)

The background was created using Ranger Texture Paste coloured with Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magicals through a Prima Marketing Inc stencil over the top of a bright Distress Ink background.

The sentiment was die cut using a Clearly Besotted word die, which I cut four times and glued together to make a nice thick word element for my card.

Good news for digi fans who would like to grab this image and some of the others in the SCACD Digital range: Susana has a special offer on at the moment. Order six or more digis between now and the end of 31st August 2014 and you can choose an additional digi for free (just note your selection in the comments section of your order)!

For US readers: Susana also has a sale on other products available in her store Susana’s Custom Art & Card Design (shipping within US only), so make sure you take a peek!

Thank you for stopping by and for any comments you might leave (I love to hear from you). Have a great weekend!

Happy Day Mermaid!

As promised, I’m getting back to my colouring and card-making now that all the new furniture has been delivered and organised. I’ll give you a little tour of my new office/craft space soon, just need a couple of little extras to get it fully organised *cough* Ikea trolley I’ve been admiring for months *cough*.

For now, here’s one I DIDN’T create earlier! The second card to be completed in the new house. Whoo! Several others were completed over the weekend, and I’ll be sharing them in due course.

I’ve been on a bit of a The Greeting Farm (TGF) stamping/colouring binge. They were one of my first character stamp loves, and I have been making some time to play with them because they just make me happy.

I wanted to create a little scene with the adorable mermaid from the TGF Magical Beans kit. My first thought was to use some of the Make it Crafty scene stamps, but my lovely friend Delphine did that so beautifully that I wanted to go for a completely different look. So, I created a blue Distress Ink background over which I stamped the new SCACD Stamps Kelp Forest Background stamp in Archival Ink and painted with Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magicals in a few different colours.

I stamped one of the sentiments from the kit on the background in Archival Ink, and used a Wink of Stella clear glitter pen over the black banner area. I also used the Wink of Stella pen on my black mat layer for additional interest.

Look at how gorgeous and sparkly the seaweed background is! Love those LSG Magicals!

A Little Birthday Magic with The Greeting Farm!

We are now settling in to the new house quite nicely. There are still bits and pieces left to sort out, but the essentials are all set up, so I’m getting back to “normal” ;)

Our niece has the honour of being the recipient of the very first card made in the new house! It was a perfect excuse to play with one of the stamps from the new Magical Beans Kit from The Greeting Farm, which I have been itching to play with since it arrived just before the move.

You can find the Magical Beans kit and other stamps from The Greeting Farm over at my store Quixotic Paperie. I am based in the UK, but ship worldwide! Plus, if you pop over there between now and midnight on Monday 4th August you could enjoy a fantastic 20% off everything!

Here it is! I decided to make a pop up box card because I love making them and my niece was so impressed with the one I made for her Nanny earlier this year (you can also see another one I made HERE). The Magical Beans images lend themselves pretty well to this as they are a little smaller than the standard TGF size.

Cute, isn’t she?! An absolute breeze to colour too. I always have fun colouring TGF characters. She was coloured with Copic Markers and a little pencil on my favourite Make it Colour Blending Card.

Copics Used:
Skin: E51, E53, E21, V95 Hair: Y32, Y35, E55, E57 Outfit: BG45, BG49, RV63, RV66

I created the papers myself, using a Prima stencil and my favourite Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magicals (Tibetan Poppy Teal, Magnolia Magenta Gold, Glory of the Seas Gold) I also used Luminarte Silks in Ice as a resist to create the star paper. Here’s a close up of some of the gorgeous sparkle:

Love it!

The dies used for the flourish and leaf elements are Magnolia DooHickey dies. The sentiment is from a Lawn Fawn stamp set.

If you haven’t tried making one yet, you can find instructions on creating a Pop Up Box Card over at Splitcoast Stampers.

I hope you’ve enjoyed dropping by today. I’ll be back again soon with some more crafty fun!

Some Saturated Canary Fun!

Before Christmas I coloured up some Saturated Canary images for Angie Hunt at Little Darlings Rubber Stamps.  The images are from the recent rubber release, and you can find the rubber stamps at Quixotic Paperie, along with a pre-order for the Winter CHA 2013 release!

Angie actually framed them to hang in the Little Darlings booth at Winter CHA!  Here are some pics of the booth (courtesy of Angie on FB and used here with her permission), and you can see the framed images hanging on the wall.

Have a Sweet Holiday – Kraftin’ Kimmie Challenge

Hopefully while you’re reading this, I’ll be off having a nice lunch with family.  Then, I’m going to chill out for the rest of the weekend, and hopefully do a little colouring.  I hope you’re having a similarly pleasant and relaxing time!

Today sees the start of a new Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps challenge.  This week our hostess Kerry has asked to see food/drink themed creations!  Join in with us, using a Kraftin’ Kimmie stamp and you could win the stamp featured on Kerry’s card today!  See the challenge blog for full details on how to enter.

My card today features the lovely GRACE (also available in the UK at Quixotic Paperie), one of this year’s Holiday themed images by Annie Rodrigue.

I stamped Grace with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Make it Colour Blending Card (now back in stock at QP!) and coloured with a combination of ShinHan Touch Twin Markers and Copics.  The paper is from my overflowing scrap drawer and the dies used are Magnolia DooHickey for the lacey border and MFT Die-Namics Fishtail Flags (chopped down a bit) for the sentiment.

That’s it!  I’ll be back tomorrow with another card to share (you can find out what happened to Quinn’s head from yesterday’s post ;-) ).

Shoot For The Moon

Happy Saturday! I’m here today to share my Bellariffic Friday card for this week.

This one is a sweet and simple card, because I wanted to focus all the attention on the adorable image – Mabel Reaching for the Stars (also available in the UK at Quixotic Paperie).   I did play a little fast and loose with the sketch we had to follow, but I’m sure I’ll be forgiven…maybe… ;)

The awesome sentiment comes with the image stamp.

I stamped little Mabel with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Make it Colour Blending Card and coloured with a combination of ShinHan Touch Twin Markers and Copics.  I cut the sentiment out using one of the MFT Die-Namics Fishtail Flags STAX dies.

NEXT WEEK’S CHALLENGE: Simply – add some SNOW to your card. Email your entries to Emily at Stamping Bella by Thursday 1st November to be in with a chance of winning some Bella Bucks.

Stamping Bella - Uptown Girls Rain Snow Shine by www.quixoticcards.com/blog

Rain, Snow or Shine…

I was hoping to post a fun and spooky Halloween card today, but unfortunately (as seems to be typical at this time of year) I simply ran short on time.  So, I wish you a spooktacular Halloween, but today I’m going to share something completely non-spooky!

Before I share, I’d like to send my very best wishes to all my friends in the US who have been affected by the storm.  I’ve been following the news reports over here, and have been hoping that you all stay safe.

So, today’s card has been “in the works” for a few weeks.  That is to say, I came up with the idea and it has taken me a few weeks to actually sit down and make it. ;)

You may spot that I have once again used that old favourite - Stamping Bella Polaroid Frame stamp (also available in the UK at Quixotic Paperie).  I masked and stamped my Uptown Girls – Lolly, Quinn and Pippa (also available in the UK at Quixotic Paperie) in the frame and cut the inner portion of the frame out.

Stamping Bella - Uptown Girls Rain Snow Shine by www.quixoticcards.com/blog

Cool, huh?  Love the sketchy look of the frame.  I stamped the images with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Make it Colour Blending Card and coloured with a combination of ShinHan Touch Twin Markers and Copics.

I used some Tim Holtz chit-chat stickers and the MFT High Rise Alphabet Lower Case die set to create the sentiment.  The designer paper is from an older My Mind’s Eye paper pack.

What do you think? I love how it turned out, which is actually slightly different from how I first saw it in my head.

Anyway, the dog has been walked, work has been done, chores have been done (sort of), the weather is dismal, and I’ve got colouring to get done!  Tonight I plan on making some popcorn and watching a scary film (or two).

Winter Whiff of Joy & A Colouring Exercise!

Thus far, the week has been trying to say the least.  Car problems, family health issues, general annoyances… Why does it all seem to crop up at this time of year?  At this rate I’ll be completely out of energy by Christmas.

Anyway!  I’ve got a fun card to share today.  I actually coloured the images for this one around this time last year!  Last October/November/December were at least as crazy as this Autumn is proving so far, so the images just never made it on to a card, that is, until now (and that’s why you can see a small crease on the reindeer’s head – hanging around in a drawer is hazardous).

Make it Crafty & Whiff of Joy Winter Scene - www.quixoticcards.com

I chose to colour the little Whiff of Joy character on my card as an exercise to show how my colouring has changed.  I’ve had this particular stamp in my collection since 2008 I believe, and you will find the original card I created with her at the end of this post.  Pretty interesting to compare them.  I can definitely recommend this as a fun way to see how your style and technique have changed/improved over time.

Make it Crafty & Whiff of Joy Winter Scene - www.quixoticcards.com

When I coloured this up last year, I used Make it Crafty digital images for the background.  I’m very happy to say that these images are now available in rubber!  Zoe has released a set of Winter Background images, which will be perfect for creating all sorts of winter scenes for your character stamps.  I have them in stock right now in the Make it Crafty section over at Quixotic Paperie here in the UK both as individual stamps and as a great value collection sheet.

I stamped the Whiff of Joy image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Make it Colour Blending Card and coloured with ShinHan Touch Twin Markers. As you can see, I also gave that Spellbinders Layered Poinsettia die a bit more of a work out.

So, here’s my original Whiff of Joy card from 2008, coloured with Copic Markers, probably on Neenah cardstock.

Whiff of Joy card from 2008 - www.quixoticcards.com

Bit of a difference, right?!  I actually still quite like the style of colouring in the older card.  Sometimes the flat style of colouring can be quite effective, especially on cartoon style characters.

That’s it for now, thank you so much for stopping by!  Let me know if you try this little exercise out yourself, I’d love to check out your results. :)  I may even have to try this again, since I’m sure my colouring has changed a little more over the past year!

Coloured with Copic Markers on Make it Colour Blending Card (this image was coloured a few weeks ago, so sorry, no colour info).  Papers are My Mind’s Eye 6×6 A Beautiful Life.  The bow was tied using the Bow-Easy template, and those yummy chipboard swirls are from a Make it Crafty Lasercut Chipboard pack – I covered them in gold glitter pen.  The sentiment is from the Whimsy Stamps Party Mini Letter Seals set.
