Stamping Bella - Uptown Girls Rain Snow Shine by www.quixoticcards.com/blog

Rain, Snow or Shine…

I was hoping to post a fun and spooky Halloween card today, but unfortunately (as seems to be typical at this time of year) I simply ran short on time.  So, I wish you a spooktacular Halloween, but today I’m going to share something completely non-spooky!

Before I share, I’d like to send my very best wishes to all my friends in the US who have been affected by the storm.  I’ve been following the news reports over here, and have been hoping that you all stay safe.

So, today’s card has been “in the works” for a few weeks.  That is to say, I came up with the idea and it has taken me a few weeks to actually sit down and make it. 😉

You may spot that I have once again used that old favourite – Stamping Bella Polaroid Frame stamp (also available in the UK at Quixotic Paperie).  I masked and stamped my Uptown Girls – Lolly, Quinn and Pippa (also available in the UK at Quixotic Paperie) in the frame and cut the inner portion of the frame out.

Cool, huh?  Love the sketchy look of the frame.  I stamped the images with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Make it Colour Blending Card and coloured with a combination of ShinHan Touch Twin Markers and Copics.

I used some Tim Holtz chit-chat stickers and the MFT High Rise Alphabet Lower Case die set to create the sentiment.  The designer paper is from an older My Mind’s Eye paper pack.

What do you think? I love how it turned out, which is actually slightly different from how I first saw it in my head.

Anyway, the dog has been walked, work has been done, chores have been done (sort of), the weather is dismal, and I’ve got colouring to get done!  Tonight I plan on making some popcorn and watching a scary film (or two).

All too often, with the constant new releases, gorgeous older stamps and images get forgotten.  I often look back over my photo folders at cards made over the past few years, and it occured to me that it might be nice to share the experience.  So, I’ll be scheduling a post each week looking back at previous creations which I feel deserve another turn to shine!

First up is one of my personal favourites, originally blogged on 15th May 2011.

The Travelers - card by Elaine Hughes www.quixoticcards.com

This stamp – The Travelers – captured my heart immediately.  I have a soft spot for all things wolf-related, and romantic gypsy images.  I also love how this card turned out with the beautiful Graphic 45 Le Cirque papers.

I coloured the image with Distress Inks, which was quite a labour of love considering I far prefer markers.  Even so, I was pretty happy with the results.  I do have this image on my list to revisit using markers, when I do it will be interesting to compare!

The sentiment was computer generated, and I thought it fit the image perfectly.  I finished the card off with a couple of my favourite embellishments – a Make it Crafty chipboard corner and a bow tied using the Bow-Easy template.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little peek into the archives!

Best Friends

As most of you probably know, Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps is putting on a fantastic event today for local crafters – Krafty Day!   Since most of us aren’t able to join in the fun, except in spirit (waaaah!), Kimmie decided to do something a little special this time around.

The attendees of Krafty Day will enjoy a lovely KKS tote bag filled with goodies.  One of those goodies is a special commemorative stamp – Best Friends – created especially for the event!   Well, how would YOU like to get one too?!!  Beginning today and running only until Friday, October 21st, each and every order at Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps over $75 before shipping and taxes will receive this stamp for FREE!

I’ve got a quick and simple card to share featuring this fab stamp, illustrated by the lovely Annie Rodrigue.  I was going to use the matching sentiment, but didn’t quite have room, so imagine you can see it on the inside of the card!

The image was coloured with ShinHan Touch Twin Markers on Make it Colour Blending Card (see pic below for marker details).  The designer papers are My Mind’s Eye – Darling Dear layered on a Kraft base, and I accented with just a few 4mm pearls.

That’s it from me.  I’ll be the one sitting colouring and sulking today, wishing I could be joining in at Krafty Day!
