“Mum” Pop Up Box Card

A very quick post today, just to share the pop-up box card I created for Paul’s Mum last week. I do love making these, they are so effective and surprisingly easy to do (but a pain to photograph)! To see a previous pop-up box card, take a look at my Wild, Free, Happy post from January.

A Card for Mother

Last year, with one thing and another, I failed miserably at sending handcrafted cards. Most people received a store bought card for birthdays, Christmas etc. This year, I am trying to get ahead so that most people on my list will receive something handcrafted.

I’ll talk about this a little more in an upcoming post where I plan to discuss some of my current thoughts on paper crafting. Suffice to say, most people on my list should receive a card made by my own fair hand, but not necessarily a card featuring an image I’ve coloured.

Today’s card is one of two I have created in preparation for Mother’s Day/Mothering Sunday. This year in the UK Mother’s Day falls on 30th March, so I am doing very well indeed!

I kept it very simple, using papers I created with Distress Inks both as the background layer and to die-cut the heart shapes that form the focal point of the card. The dies I used were Memory Box Cupid Heart and Silverdale Heart. The word “mother” was added using a Tim Holtz Chit Chat word sticker, which I inked with Distress Ink to match the background layer.

That’s it! A sweet and simple card, and a step closer to achieving my goal. 😉

Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps Challenge – Skulls!

The Krafty Girls are getting a little spooky today with the latest Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps challenge – use a skull in some way on your project!  So either an image featuring skulls somewhere, skull design paper, embellishments etc.

Join in using a Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps image and you could be in with a chance of winning the stamp featured on our lovely hostess Cheryl’s card!

PLUS make sure you check out the fun events over at the challenge blog this weekend in honour of World Cardmaking Day!

Here’s my spooktastic card.  I was feeling a little coloured out, and needed a change, so I pulled out the HALLOWEEN TRINKETS stamp set (also available in the UK at Quixotic Paperie) and some dies.

I stamped the trinket sentiment with black ink on white card and diecut it using a Spellbinders circle die.  I placed it on top of a paper rosette made from Echo Park Chillingsworth Manor paper using the Memory Box Blooming Rosette die (any rosette die would work, like the MFT Die-Namics ones).  I’m a little bit late to the rosette party, but I may be developing an addiction to making them…

Behind my rosette are some gorgeous diecuts – my favourite Dies by SCACD – Alice’s Clock Statement Corner and MFT Die-Namics Fancy Flourish.  I tied the bow using my Bow-Easy, and finally I added my skull to the top of the bow.

The skull features on one of the Echo Park Chillingsworth Manor 12×12 kit sticker sheets, as part of a larger design.  I didn’t really want to cut the sticker up, so I actually cut it out from the packaging insert sheet and backed with cardstock to make it more durable.

That’s it!  Hope you’ll join us for this week’s challenge.  Have a fantastic weekend!

NOTE:

Those of you in Canada or nearby, have you booked your places at the upcoming Krafty Day yet?  If not (and why not?!) get on over to the KKS website and book!  Kimmie and the Krafty Girls who are able to attend have got some serious fun planned.

SCACD Stamps – Release Hop!

Today sees the release of a fantastic new collection of stamps designed by Carmen Medlin for SCACD Stamps.  The new stamps are utterly gorgeous, and perfect if you need something a little more elegant.

You should have hopped over here from Donalda’s Blog.  If you’re just joining us, there is a complete list of all hop participants at the SCACD Store Blog.

SCACD Stamps are available in the US at Susana’s Custom Art & Card Design or in the UK/Europe at Quixotic Paperie.

On my card I’ve used one of the new Yesteryear Collection stamps – The Beauty.  That dress was a lot of fun to colour!

Truly gorgeous isn’t she?

The image was coloured with ShinHan Touch Twin markers on Make it Colour Blending Card.  Designer paper is Memory Box.  The bow was tied using the Bow-Easy and I layered on Kraft cardstock.

The “Reflections Yesteryear”, “Reflections Fantasy” and “Just Because” stamps are all available at SCACD in the US and at Quixotic Paperie in the UK/Europe. You can purchase the stamps individually, but if you have fallen in love with all the stamps (like me!), you can instead purchase them as complete sets at discounted prices. When bought as sets, both the “Reflections Yesteryear” and “Reflections Fantasy” collections include a bonus accessory stamp.

Your next stop on the hop is Lori’s Blog.  Enjoy!
