Happy with SCACD Digital

SCACD Digi - Alien Butterfly - www.markergeek.com

Today’s card is one of my favourites so far this year. I absolutely love how bright and HAPPY it is!

The focal image is a digital stamp from the Carmen Medlin for SCACD Digital range. “Alien Butterfly” is perfect for going over the top with fun and bright colour combinations.

I Have Loved The Stars Too Fondly (again)

I hope you all had a fantastic Easter weekend. We had a busy one visiting Paul’s family for his Mum’s birthday (I’ll be sharing the card I made for her later this week). We’re home now though, and I’m getting ready to finish off some colouring I started before we went away!

Today I’d like to share an art journal spread I created. This one features a quote I used on one of my other recent art journal pages which can be seen > HERE <.

This page uses some Tim Holtz Sizzix Alterations die cuts, alphabet stamps and some gorgeous Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magicals. It’s a pretty simple one but I do love the effect of the Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magicals on the background.

I Have Loved The Stars | Marker Geek

I used Fantasy Film behind the Townscape die-cuts to create windows.

Supplies:
Moleskine Sketchbook, Ranger Glossy Cardstock, Luminarte Silks paints (Ice used as a resist through stencil), Memory Box Starry Night stencil, Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magicals “Screaming Banshee Black”, Tim Holtz Sizzix Alterations Townscape On The Edge die, Tim Holtz Sizzix Alterations Movers & Shapers Mini Branch die, Grunge Paper, Distress Paint “Black Soot”. Memento Luxe white ink pad, Fantasy Film, Lawn Fawn Milo’s ABCs stamp set.

I Have Loved The Stars…

So far, I have shown you two of the SCACD Stamps “Elements Collection” stamps.  If you missed them, you can find the “Fire” post HERE and the Water post HERE.

Today I am sharing some makes featuring “Wind”.

First, here is a journal page I created. You can find a list of supplies at the end of my post, along with the supplies info for the two cards. This page was created in the same 8.5″ x 11″ journal as the previous two Elements pages.

SCACD Stamps - Elements Collection - Wind |Marker Geek

Here’s a closer look at “Wind”, who I coloured with Faber-Castell Polychromos Pencils on a layer of Gesso:

SCACD Stamps - Elements Collection - Wind |Marker Geek

Just love her…

I of course, also coloured Wind with markers and popped her on a simple card! With an image this beautiful and detailed you can get away with doing very little to the card (or if you’re so inclined, you can go over the top with it too).

SCACD Stamps - Elements Collection - Wind |Marker Geek

Finally, I created a quick card using the feather accessory stamp that accompanies Wind, along with a quote stamp from my stash (I believe this one is from a Flourishes LLC set).

When stamping, the quote stamp came out a little blurred, but I found that I actually quite liked the effect, so I went with it. It seemed to suit the background.

WOYWW #253 & The SCACD Elements Collection

Wednesday again! For the second week in a row I’ve got a quick snap of my desk to share for WOYWW #253 over at Julia’s Stamping Ground.  Not bad! For the uninitiated, visit > this page < for an explanation of WOYWW and how to join in.

Here’s a snap of my desk from Tuesday evening. I tidied up after finishing a pile of cards, so a photo taken this morning would be rather dull!

WOYWW 253 |Marker Geek

As you can see, I’ve been doing some die-cutting and card assembling. It was time to turn some coloured images into cards before the pile took on a life of its own.

Now, please do stick with me, I’ve got a journal page and two cards to show you!

If you dropped by earlier in the week you may have seen my post on Monday, featuring one of the new stamp releases from SCACD Stamps. The journal page shown on Monday could actually be glimpsed in my WOYWW #252 pic last week. Today’s page is from the same book and is actually the very first page in the journal.

Full supplies lists can be found at the bottom of this post, for those interested!

Meet “Water”.  She is one of the new Elements Collection stamps, and she is a beauty.

SCACD Stamps Elements Collection - Water |Marker Geek

This page is in a hardback 8.5″x11″ mixed media journal, although I created the main part of the page on a piece of paper from a Canson XL mixed media pad.  I coloured “Water” using Faber Castell Polychromos pencils on top of a thin layer of gesso.

Here’s a closer look:

I also coloured “Water” with my trusty markers (Copics this time) on Make it Colour Blending Card. Here’s the resulting card:

SCACD Stamps Elements Collection - Water |Marker GeekWater comes with a fun scales accessory stamp which I used to create a quick and simple card together with a fun die-cutting technique I picked up from Jennifer McGuire.

Thank you for joining me today!  I hope you’ve enjoyed my post.  If so, please do leave a comment, I’d love to hear from you. 🙂

SCACD Stamps – Exciting New Release – Elements Collection

I’m not sure I can adequately express how excited I am to finally be able to share the new release from SCACD Stamps and the things I’ve been working on using the new stamps. I know, I’m always falling in love with a stamp (or ten), but this new release makes me extremely happy. It’s a lengthy post today so bear with me, but I am including lots of inspiration for you!

There is of course a fun release hop going on today to show off the new release and to share some inspiration from the SCACD DT and friends. If you’re just joining us, pop on over to the SCACD Store Blog and find out all the info on how to get started. If you hopped over here from my lovely friend Kim Dellow’s blog then you’re on the right track!

I have projects completed with all four of the new Elements Collection stamps, and will be sharing them over the next couple of weeks.  For today’s hop I’m sharing Fire, and I hope you love her as much as I do. Before I share my projects for today, here’s a quick look at the collection:

SCACD Stamps - Elements Collection | Marker Geek

Four beautiful, powerful images created for SCACD Stamps by artist Carmen Medlin.

US Readers: find the Elements Collection over at Susana’s Custom Art & Card Design
International Readers: find the Elements Collection over at Quixotic Paperie (my online store)

My main project is a journal page.  This year I’m making an effort to take time to play and create just for me, both to test out the various crafty mediums I’ve collected and also to work through things that are going on in life, in my head etc. The pages I’ve created with these new stamps were a lot of fun to work on – pure play! For a full list of supplies used on the projects in this post, please scroll right to the end.

This page is in a hardback 8.5″x11″ mixed media journal, although I created the main part of the page on a piece of paper from a Canson XL mixed media pad.
SCACD Fire Girl | Marker Geek
I stamped “Fire” with Ranger Archival Ink in Jet Black before creating the background using Derwent Inktense pencils, followed by some Pan Pastel shading around the image. The image was coloured using Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils. After colouring the image, I sealed the page with Matt Gel Medium.  Extra colouring was added with Faber-Castell PITT Artist pens for additional contrast. I also stamped the Tim Holtz quote stamp on a piece of torn vellum which I added to the page and framed using the flame accessory stamp and some additional doodling.

Here’s a closer look at the gorgeous “Fire” image.
SCACD Fire Girl | Marker Geek

I’ve definitely been having fun getting to know my Polychromos pencils.  Lots of room for improvement, but that’s a big part of the fun.

The second project I have to share today is a card I created using my marker coloured image.

SCACD Stamps - Elements Collection - Fire | Marker Geek

For even more fun, I also created a quick card using the flame accessory stamp which comes with “Fire”.

Phew!  If you made it this far, well done and thanks for sticking with me. 😉 You may want to grab a refill for your coffee/tea/whatever then hop on over to the next stop which is our guest Penny Mull’s blog. Enjoy!

WOYWW #252 & That Journal Spread

Today I’ve got a quick snap of my desk to share for WOYWW #252 over at Julia’s Stamping Ground.  For the uninitiated, visit > this page < for an explanation of WOYWW and how to join in.  It’s pretty simple really – it’s Wednesday, post a pic of your workspace link it up, grab a coffee and have a good nose around some others. 😉

My desk isn’t that interesting today, but it is a fairly typical view: markers (today they are Copics), and something I’m colouring, and my Gorjuss mug filled with Green Tea.  I’ve had to be sneaky though and turn over my colouring and cover up part of the journal you can see at the edge of the picture – I can’t show you what I’m working on until next week, although I am absolutely dying to. Really excited.

WOYWW 252 | Marker Geek

Anyway, those of you that have checked in before and seen previous WOYWW posts may be interested to see that I have finally finished “that journal spread”, which first made an appearance in February.

Thanks for dropping in! I would love to hear from you, so please do leave a comment to say hi. 🙂

Something Different: Angels

I’ve been feeling more creative again lately, with lots of tedious paperwork behind me (mostly) and the bulk of our big clear-out completed. So, I finally cracked open a Moleskine journal to enjoy some “just for me” time and find a way to express some of the ideas that have been rattling around in my brain for a while.

This is what happened when I sat down at my desk on Sunday afternoon with a vague idea and lots of supplies. 😉

The journal is a Moleskine Sketchbook (130mm x 210mm). I glued the pages together before working so they are sturdier. On this spread I covered the pages with Tim Holtz Tissue Wrap, which I then inked with Distress Ink in Vintage Photo. Over the top of this I painted layers of Luminarte Silks (African Jade and Wine & Roses) and Matte Gel Medium, which resulted in a really nice aged look, with a subtle hint of iridescence. I stamped in random places using Impression Obsession Cover a Card – Script and Ranger Archival Ink without a block, just to add some subtle texture.

Even Angels...

The word “angels” was die cut from sticky back canvas with the Tim Holtz Alterations “Word Play” die from Sizzix.  Before die cutting, I covered the canvas with same Distress Ink and Silks I used on the pages.

The wings from the Sheena Douglass A Little Bit Sketchy – Divine Inspiration stamp set were stamped on hot press watercolour paper and coloured with Copic markers (info below), then cut out and adhered to the page with gel medium.  I then sealed them and the die cut letters to the pages using gel medium before going over them with Silks to increase the intensity of the colours and add some beautiful shimmer.

The rest of the wording was created using Stampendous alpha stamps and Ranger Archival Ink. Then I added some interest to the edges of the pages using Frantage embossing powder from Stampendous.

Copics: E40, E42, E44, B52, RV63, Y26

Phew! I thoroughly enjoyed creating this spread, and the process was definitely therapeutic. I’m looking forward to some more “me time” very soon.

Hope – Dream Tag

I may have mentioned a few times now that I love the latest stamp release in the Susana Loves Stamp range from SCACD Stamps.  Well, I’m going to say it again!  This release has definitely helped renew my creative spark and has had me delving into the supplies I have long been neglecting while obsessing over markers and colouring!  Once upon a time, I used to play with things other than line art and pens, and I’m enjoying exploring that again and learning some new techniques.  Lucky I reorganised my room so I can actually find all the relevant stash!

In case you missed it, here’s a link to my previous post, which shows off the first make featuring some of the new Susana Loves Stamps – Blank Canvas Collection – stamps.  You may have noticed in my Project Organisation post that my little “Be” tag book is hanging on my die storage drawers, as a constant reminder!

Today I’d like to share my favourite so far, a tag featuring one of the shells from the Susana Loves Stamps – Elements Collection stamp set (also available in the Shells Set without the other elements).  I stamped the shell with Versamark clear embossing ink onto a tag cut from Make it Colour Blending Card, and embossed with clear embossing powder.  I then covered the tag in Distress Inks using a blending tool.  I used a few different colours to create the water and sky.  To give the impression of waves, I used a Ranger Acrylic Paint dabber in “Snowcap” very lightly in the area where the blue and orange tones meet.  Pretty cool, no?  I finished off the tag with some gold mica flakes for a gorgeous sparkly sand effect, and added some printed twill ribbon across the middle.

Susana Loves Stamps - available at www.quixoticpaperie.co.uk

I always feel calm and somewhat hopeful when looking at the sea, and this tag seems to convey some of that.

Hope you’ve enjoyed stopping by and checking out something a little different!  I’m enjoying “mixing it up” here, and perhaps inspiring you to do the same!

SUPPLIES USED:

A Fun Hop Celebrating An Exciting New Direction Plus a Special Jubilee Weekend Offer!

I am very excited to be joining in with the release celebrations today for the new release from Susana’s Custom Art & Card Design (aka SCACD).  Susana has followed her heart and taken a fantastic new direction with two awesome collections.

You should have hopped over here from DANNI’S BLOG.  If you’re just joining us or you’re feeling a little lost, pop on over to the SCACD Store Blog to get the full hop details and links!

The Release Details!

First is a fantastic new line of dies.  Susana has collaborated on a collection of dies with a timeless, classic feel.  Delicate and beautiful, the diecuts from these high quality wafer thin metal dies will be featuring on your projects for years to come!

Dies by SCACD - available from www.quixoticpaperie.co.uk

Second is a brilliant new direction for SCACD.  Susana has collaborated on the creation of a new line of Mixed Media stamps.  Let SCACD take you on a new creative adventure with the Blank Canvas Collection.  From the beginner to the mixed media enthusiast, these stamps will have the creative juices well and truly flowing!

Susana Loves Stamps - Blank Canvas Collection - available at www.quixoticpaperie.co.uk

The Blank Canvas Collection stamps and the Die Collection are available NOW from Quixotic Paperie in the UK

Those of you in the US/Canada can buy direct from Susana’s Custom Art & Card Design.

Each set in the collection comprises three looks, perfect for mixing it up with different techniques.  Use the elements set to enhance the blank canvas silhouettes, or use them on their own for gorgeous effects.

In addition there is a fabulous set of word outlines, ready to be customised however you like!  Color them in, doodle, zentangle, paper piece – go wherever your creativity takes you.

The idea is to mix it up and have fun, and that’s most certainly what I’ve been doing.  It has been refreshing to step out of my comfort zone of markers and line art images, and play with a wider range of the products I have stashed away!  I’m by no means planning on throwing the markers out, but I am feeling a little more creative, a little less bogged down and a little more like I might actually work on that art journal I keep putting back in the cupboard.

My Project!

So, on to my project for today!  Instead of creating a card, I decided to create a fun little piece…a little tag book to keep in my desk drawer as a reminder.

Susana Loves Stamps (SCACD) - Blank Canvas Collection available at www.quixoticpaperie.co.uk

Look, no colouring!  I used hot press watercolour paper, which I wet with a mister and then painted with Twinkling H2Os in three different colours (one of my very first stamping/colouring loves).  After the paper dried, I stamped the solid profile from the new Blank Canvas Profile Set in Archival Ink and used a Spellbinders Grand Nestabilities die to cut each one out.  Then I outlined the profiles and the edge of the oval with a white gel pen, and added some dots with a Copic Multiliner.  I also used the white gel pen to write on the profile, because that’s what the Blank Canvas Collection is all about!

I created the front cover by stamping the outline profile from the Blank Canvas Profiles Set on to black card with a white pigment ink, and outlining the edge of the oval with the white gel pen again.  I covered some chipboard letters in Gesso, followed by Twinkling H2Os in Ruby Red.  The whole thing is held together with a small book ring (I have hundreds of book rings stashed, which I don’t remember buying!).

Susana Loves Stamps (SCACD) - Blank Canvas Collection available at www.quixoticpaperie.co.uk

You can’t really see on the photos, but the Twinkling H2Os give the coloured sheets a gorgeous, subtle shimmer which shows through the stamped profiles.

Susana Loves Stamps (SCACD) - Blank Canvas Collection available at www.quixoticpaperie.co.uk

That’s it from me today!  I hope you can tell that I’m thoroughly enjoying this release and doing something a little different.  I’ve already got a few other completed projects ready to share over the next week, so check back starting on Sunday when I’ll be sharing a card created using one of the new dies!

Your next stop on the blog hop is DIANNE’S BLOG, and I know she will have something fab to share with you!
