Card & Video: Saturated Canary Feather Crown

Saturated Canary - Feather Crown Card & Video - www.markergeek.com

It is no secret that I love colouring hair. It is one of my favourite things to do. That said, I am a little out of practice, so to rectify that I turned to one of my favourite stamp artists for awesome hair: Krista Smith and her fantastic Saturated Canary images.¬† I need to get back into my hair “groove”, so bear with me, but I filmed the colouring process so you can check out a speed colouring video. I have also provided a Copic Marker Colour Palette in the post, so read on!

Saturated Canary Colouring Fun

Today I’d like to share a couple of coloured images with you.

I have shared the step by step progress photos for these images over on my Marker Geek Facebook page, so if you’re interested in checking out the colouring process, pop on over there and take a peek. I will be sharing more of these sets of photos in future, and more besides. ūüėČ

I actually coloured both of the images I’m sharing during May 2013. For some reason they ended up in a folder and were never shared. Tsk!

This one is “Country Mama” from Saturated Canary.¬† Unfortunately I think this one has been retired now, as I can’t find her on the website. I cropped the image and printed her on an A4 sheet.

This lovely lady is “Springtime II” from¬†Saturated Canary. She is still available and you can find her HERE on the Saturated Canary store.

In the past year my style has changed a little and I would colour the faces slightly differently now, but I think they are still pretty fun to look at.

Both images were printed on my favourite Make it Colour Blending Card and were coloured with ShinHan Touch Twin Markers.

Hope to see you over on Facebook, don’t be shy, I’d love for you to stop by and chat!

It has been a while since I coloured the beautiful Violet from Saturated Canary. I found her in a folder, and decided it was time she found her way on to a card. I think I shared the original coloured image on FaceBook a year or so ago.

I cropped Violet and printed just part of the image, at a fairly large size. I like to do this with some images, when I feel like getting lost in colouring. I would probably colour her a little differently now, but I thought it would be fun to share her today anyway.

I coloured Violet with a combination of ShinHan Touch Twin and Copic markers. Here is the list!

Skin: Touch Twin YR132, YR133, BR107 Hair: Copic V04, V06, C4, C6, C9 Outfit: Copic R81, R83, R85, R89, W7, BG70 BG72, BG75, BG78 Additional Shading: Touch Twin WG0.5 WG2, WG4

Saturated Canary Cerridwen

One of my favourite things to do is colour hair.  This is why I love the Saturated Canary images, so many of them have gorgeous flowing hair that is extremely therapeutic to get lost in colouring (with the digis I like to print them fairly large so I can do just that).

I actually coloured the image on this card at the end of Summer last year!  I thought it was about time she found her way on to a card.

The image is Cerridwen and you will find her in digi format at Krista’s Saturated Canary store. I printed the image¬†on Make it Colour Blending Card and coloured with ShinHan Touch Twin Markers (details below).

The designer paper is once again from an old Crate Paper collection. I inked all the layers with Distress Ink in Walnut Stain.  The image was diecut with Spellbinders Grand Circle Nestabilities.

I’m definitely feeling like I’m back in my “groove” at the moment.¬† About time too! I’ve got a few more cards lined up to show you this week, so make sure you check in again soon!

Some Saturated Canary Fun!

Before Christmas I coloured up some Saturated Canary images for Angie Hunt at Little Darlings Rubber Stamps.  The images are from the recent rubber release, and you can find the rubber stamps at Quixotic Paperie, along with a pre-order for the Winter CHA 2013 release!

Angie actually framed them to hang in the Little Darlings booth at Winter CHA!  Here are some pics of the booth (courtesy of Angie on FB and used here with her permission), and you can see the framed images hanging on the wall.

Pretty cool, no? ūüôā

The Circus is in Town!

Some of you may remember me posting the coloured image on this project over on FaceBook a while ago, well, I FINALLY decided what to do with her!

I spent quite a while colouring the image, and as it is a favourite, it seemed fitting to create a little something for myself.¬† So, I found a cheap 8″x8″ black frame, removed the glass and used it to create this project.

Saturated Canary - Circus Trixie - www.quixoticcards.com

The image is Saturated Canary РCircus Trixie, and she is now available in lovely rubber from Little Darlings Rubber Stamps.  All the Saturated Canary rubber stamps are in stock here in the UK over at Quixotic Paperie.

For the image I used my favourite Make it Colour Blending Card and coloured with ShinHan Touch Twin Markers (full details below).

One of my other great loves is Graphic 45 paper.¬† I love it so much that¬†I rarely use it!¬† I end up saving most of the papers for special projects and altered items, which I usually don’t find the time to create.¬† It was fantastic to actually use some of it for a fun keepsake project.¬† The pads I used for this were Le Cirque and Olde Curiosity Shoppe for the butterflies.

The circus tickets are from a new favourite stamp/die set – MFT Die-Namics – Lisa Johnson Designs –¬†Circus Spectacular.¬† You will be seeing more of that one here very soon!¬† I also used the MFT Die-Namics Fancy Flourish die.

Thank you for stopping by today, I hope you’ve enjoyed checking out my project.

Ferris Wheel Fun with Saturated Canary!

Today is a pretty exciting day Рthe new Saturated Canary rubber stamp release is now available to pre-order!  The stamps are all available on pre-order over at Quixotic Paperie in the Saturated Canary section, and are expected to arrive in stock around mid August.

To celebrate, I wanted to post a fun project.¬† I’ve been playing with the Make it Crafty Ferris Wheel kit, and managed to finish it at the weekend.¬† It looks so awesome all decorated, and I love the fact that it turns.¬† I can see this as a fun centre piece for a party, or¬†a sweet decoration for a kid’s room, or well, a big kid’s room. ūüėȬ† Most of all, it’s just so much fun to put together and so satisfying once finished.

I covered the wheel and main supports in paper, and used acrylic paint for the cars, to create a similar look to the paper I used.

To create the backdrop I used a piece of 12×12 cardstock in blue, and added MFT Die-Namics die cuts from Flat Bottom Clouds and Fresh Cut Grass to create the little scene.¬† I think it looks pretty cute!¬† Sadly the photo didn’t quite turn out as I hoped, but the lighting here was a bit patchy yesterday.

The sweet little character is Birthday Ellie, one of the Saturated Canary images now available to order in rubber stamp form! I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Make it Colour Blending Card and coloured with ShinHan Touch Twin Markers before cutting her out to stand in front of my ferris wheel.

Hope you enjoyed checking this little project out as much as I enjoyed doing it!¬† Happy Monday…hope the week treats you well.

Saturated Canary – Wedding Day Card

Ok, don’t fall off your chairs,¬† I have a card to share!¬† Take a second to get over the shock…

I finally completed the image I started colouring a week or so ago, which you may have caught a glimpse of in an earlier post.  I had a lot of fun colouring this one, colouring all the folds in the dress was extremely therapeutic, I may actually have zoned out completely during the process.

The image I coloured is one of the gorgeous Saturated Canary digis – Wedding Day.¬† If you can’t see the digi in the etsy store when you visit, I think you can contact Krista via etsy and she’ll get it added for you.

“Wedding Day”¬†was coloured using ShinHan Touch Twin markers on Make it Colour Blending Card (colour map below).¬† The pretty paper is from an older¬†Magnolia 12×12 sheet that I have stockpiled in my stash.¬† I cut the layers using the Spellbinders Grand Nestabilities Labels 23 set and the Spellbinders Nestabilities Curved Rectangles set for the opening to frame the image.

Notes on Colouring:

You may have seen my note in a previous post that my friend Susana at Susana‚Äôs Custom Art & Card Design is now stocking my favourite ‚Äď ShinHan Touch Twin Markers –¬†in handy 3 pen combo bundles put together by yours truly.¬† I used markers from several of the combo sets when colouring this image. I used some of the basic sets, along with the shading sets to create extra depth in the image.¬† Hopefully the notes here will help you to see how I use the shading sets to enhance the colouring of an image.

Skintones: Caucasian Skin Set PLUS Shading Set #4 Green Grey – I love this combination for skintones.¬† Most often I used Green Grey 1 and Green Grey 3 in the shadow areas, although occasionally I may use the Blue Greys instead, depending on the look I’m going for.

Eyes: Blue Jeans Set PLUS Shading Set #3 Blue Grey.

Hair: Reddish Brown Set PLUS Shading Set #2 Warm Grey Рthis has to be one of my favourite hair combinations.  The brown set creates a gorgeous reddish brown, and the Warm Greys really help to add depth.

Dress: I mainly used Shading Set #3 Blue Grey on the dress with a touch of another marker – B182.¬† When colouring white, remember that white objects have shades of grey and other colours reflected on them, so don’t be afraid to get in there with your greys (which greys you would use may depend on the material you’re trying to represent, the lighting etc).¬† You need to leave some white space, but particularly in the creases and in shadow areas you need to create depth, or your image will¬†look flat.

Bouquet: For the roses in her bouquet, I used the Basic Red Set along with WG5 from Shading Set #2 Warm Grey.  The Warm Grey set is a great choice for adding depth to warm tones such as reds.

Ground: I used Shading Set #1 Cool Grey to create the shadow underneath “Wedding Day” to ground her.¬† Depending on the look you want, you could use any of the shading sets for this purpose, and if you are creating a coloured floor/ground you can use an appropriate shading set to add extra depth e.g. for grass I might use the Leafy Green set with Shading Set #4 Green Grey, layering the Green Grey shades on top of the greens.

UK readers: News regarding Touch Twin Markers in the UK will hopefully be coming in the near future.  I will let you all know as soon as I have any news on this!
