Bellariffic Friday – Mister Penguin Helps Ramona

It has been a pretty exciting week.  On Wednesday we rushed off to London to see our gorgeous new niece – Sophia – who was born at half past seven that morning!  She is absolutely lovely, and we’re very much looking forward to seeing her again at Christmas. I’ve also been having a lot of fun shopping for baby gifts. ;-)

Today is of course, Bellariffic Friday, and I’ve got another Christmas card to share!  Apart from a couple of special family cards I am now pretty much done!  This is definitely a first.  Normally I have four or five cards left to make on 23rd December and end up burning the midnight oil.  Most of the Christmas gifts have also been ordered now, so fingers crossed I could potentially be all done with card making and gift wrapping by the end of next week.  That would be a novelty.

So, here is my card for today, following the sketch we were given last week.  I used the adorable Mister Penguin Helps Ramona, is he not the cutest? (stamp is available in the UK from Quixotic Paperie)

I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Make it Colour Blending Card and coloured with ShinHan Touch Twin Markers.

Papers are from an older Echo Park kit.  Stickers are Tim Holtz Chit Chat.  The snowflakes are from a Make it Crafty Lasercut Chipboard pack.

NEXT WEEK’S CHALLENGE: Simply – create a tag! You could create a tag on its own, or create a tag and add it to a card! Email your entries to Emily at Stamping Bella by the end of Thursday 6th December to be in with a chance of winning some Bella Bucks.

PLUS there’s another chance to win $25 Stamping Bella gift vouchers with our Anything Goes challenge over at Splitcoast Stampers – check out the info here! Use keyword BELLANOV2012 when uploading to the SCS gallery and get your pics uploaded by midnight EST on 10th December.

Bellariffic Friday – Holiday Wishes with Frostier

Another Friday has rolled around, leaving behind it a pretty exhausting week!  Taika is recuperating after her surgery.  She bounced back much faster than I expected, although there have been a couple of little issues.  She picked up a little infection, so she’s on antibiotics.  Fingers crossed it will clear up over the next few days.

Anyway!  This week’s Bellariffic Friday theme was to create a card for the holidays.  I wanted to colour up one of the latest Stamping Bella releases – Frostier (also available in the UK at Quixotic Paperie), so here he is on a pretty simple card!

I love colouring snowmen, they can be as quick and simple to colour as you like!

I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Make it Colour Blending Card and coloured with ShinHan Touch Twin Markers.  The designer paper is from my scrap drawer.

Make sure you pop over to Bloggabella this week, leave a comment on the latest Bellariffic Friday post and check out the work from the other babes, including our two newest additions: Angela Thomas and Amanda Reed!

Bellariffic Friday – Poor Quinn!

Time for Bellariffic Friday!  I am getting quite concerned about the speed with which seem to be hurtling toward Christmas.  There aren’t many Fridays left!  I can’t believe a whole week has passed since my last post…I’ve got some serious catching up to do.

Still, with today’s card I’ve ticked another off the Christmas list, so I’m not doing badly.  Fingers crossed I will avoid the usual last minute December 23rd rush to finish family cards!

As you will see, my obsession with cropping Uptown Girls (the stamps are also available in the UK at Quixotic Paperie) has moved to another level…

LOL! Yep, I cropped poor Quinn and just used her legs on this card.  I just love her awkward pose and those boots (I have a bit of a boot obsession personally).

Stamping Bella - Uptown Girl Quinn - www.quixoticcards.com/blog

Look at those stamps in a different way – although the Uptown Girls are beautiful large stamps, which I love to colour in their full glory, I also love finding different ways to use them.  That’s the fun of stamping!

I stamped Quinn with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Make it Colour Blending Card (now back in stock at QP!) and coloured with ShinHan Touch Twin Markers.  The falling snow was added to the sky using a white acrylic pen. I cut the sentiment out and layered using Spellbinders Heart shaped dies.

SCACD Stamps Release Hop – Arctic Princess

Today sees the release of some incredible new stamps from two of the SCACD Stamps lines: Elisabeth Bell for SCACD and also the awesome Susana Loves Stamps collection.

I’m joining the SCACD Design Team today for a hop to showcase the new release.  Thanks for having me, girls!

You should have hopped over here from DANNI’S BLOG.  If not, pop on over there now, as she is the first stop on the hop, and I’m sure you won’t want to miss any of the crafty inspiration. ;)

I chose to show off one of the new Susana Loves Stamps images today, and I’m sure you can see why.  I fell in love with this particular stamp immediately.

Meet Arctic Princess from the Mythical Reflections release!

SCACD - Susana Loves Stamps - Artic Princess - www.quixoticcards.com/blog

Isn’t she beautiful? And that seahorse…oh my!  I had a lot of fun colouring her up.  The stamp is a really nice size for colouring, with lots of beautiful details.

I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Make it Colour Blending Card and coloured with ShinHan Touch Twin Markers.  The beautiful die cuts around the image are the Dies by SCACD Ornate Hinge die – Melanie Holtz also used them this way recently and I loved the effect.

I hope you’ve enjoyed stopping by and checking out my card.  Time to hop on though, and your next stop is the fantastic ALEX’S BLOG!

Happy hopping!

Winter Whiff of Joy & A Colouring Exercise!

Thus far, the week has been trying to say the least.  Car problems, family health issues, general annoyances… Why does it all seem to crop up at this time of year?  At this rate I’ll be completely out of energy by Christmas.

Anyway!  I’ve got a fun card to share today.  I actually coloured the images for this one around this time last year!  Last October/November/December were at least as crazy as this Autumn is proving so far, so the images just never made it on to a card, that is, until now (and that’s why you can see a small crease on the reindeer’s head – hanging around in a drawer is hazardous).

Make it Crafty & Whiff of Joy Winter Scene - www.quixoticcards.com

I chose to colour the little Whiff of Joy character on my card as an exercise to show how my colouring has changed.  I’ve had this particular stamp in my collection since 2008 I believe, and you will find the original card I created with her at the end of this post.  Pretty interesting to compare them.  I can definitely recommend this as a fun way to see how your style and technique have changed/improved over time.

Make it Crafty & Whiff of Joy Winter Scene - www.quixoticcards.com

When I coloured this up last year, I used Make it Crafty digital images for the background.  I’m very happy to say that these images are now available in rubber!  Zoe has released a set of Winter Background images, which will be perfect for creating all sorts of winter scenes for your character stamps.  I have them in stock right now in the Make it Crafty section over at Quixotic Paperie here in the UK both as individual stamps and as a great value collection sheet.

I stamped the Whiff of Joy image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Make it Colour Blending Card and coloured with ShinHan Touch Twin Markers. As you can see, I also gave that Spellbinders Layered Poinsettia die a bit more of a work out.

So, here’s my original Whiff of Joy card from 2008, coloured with Copic Markers, probably on Neenah cardstock.

Whiff of Joy card from 2008 - www.quixoticcards.com

Bit of a difference, right?!  I actually still quite like the style of colouring in the older card.  Sometimes the flat style of colouring can be quite effective, especially on cartoon style characters.

That’s it for now, thank you so much for stopping by!  Let me know if you try this little exercise out yourself, I’d love to check out your results. :)  I may even have to try this again, since I’m sure my colouring has changed a little more over the past year!

Stamping Bella - Winona Loves Winter - www.quixoticcards.com

Uptownie Winona Loves Winter!

It’s a bit wet and windy here in Dorset at the moment and I’m on the hunt for a new coat and some boots.  I do love Autumn.  Still feeling a bit achy, but I’m getting there. Definitely less stressed than I was last week.  Lots of colouring and Netflix, which at least means I’m not behind with DT work!  I’m finally learning to get things done in advance, rather than at the last minute, which can only help with the stress levels, right?

You may have heard that there is a new Stamping Bella release.  Em finally stopped teasing us and released the stamps yesterday.  I joined in with the refreshathon as there were plenty of images I hadn’t seen.  Fantastic!  Totally in love with the new Uptown Girls, of course, and the adorable Ramona and Mister Penguin (so squishable).  I’ve already got some plans for a few of the stamps, so watch this space.

You can grab all of the new release over at Stamping Bella right now, with a 15% discount using the code provided in >this post<!  And yes, those of you in the UK/Europe who have been asking – the stamps are on order for Quixotic Paperie - just listen carefully for my squeals of delight to find out when they have arrived. ;)

I already posted a card featuring one of the new Uptownies – Bianca and Her Big Cake (of course Em originally told me her name was Beverly…but I think Bianca works well too!).  I also got to play with another over the weekend, so I’d like to introduce…

WINONA LOVES WINTER!

Stamping Bella - Winona Loves Winter - www.quixoticcards.com

I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Make it Colour Blending Card and coloured with ShinHan Touch Twin Markers.  I cut out the heart and scalloped heart layer with Spellbinders Nestabilities, and accented with some little pink gems.  The designer paper is an older release from Magnolia.

Have you noticed that I’m in a purple phase?  Well, I hope you’re liking it, because I’m not done with it yet…watch this space for more purpliciousness.

Uptown Girl Quinn In The Frame!

Oh yes, it’s another card featuring the Polaroid Frame.  I can’t help it, it is just perfect for making fun, quick and easy cards!

This time I have put Uptown Girl – Quinn in the frame for my latest Touch Twin Markers & More challenge card.  The current challenge is to create a square card and use fabric in some way.  I went for the simple option of colouring my ribbon with one of my markers to match my colouring.

The challenge runs from September 10th – September 22nd with a winner being announced on September 23rd. Click HERE for challenge details and to enter!

I stamped and masked the images with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Make it Colour Blending Card and coloured with ShinHan Touch Twin Markers (detailed info below).  The designer paper is from the Echo Park Dots & Stripes Christmas pad.  I used a white acrylic pen to add the snow detail to the sky on the coloured image.

2011 In Review

The festivities are almost over, along with the year, and we’re all looking back over 2011, getting ready to look forward to what 2012 will bring.  As usual, I didn’t complete anywhere near what I wanted to do this Christmas in terms of crafty projects.  I have, however, achieved something more important – I have relaxed and enjoyed.  So, I’m not going to beat myself up for not sharing more here on my blog this December, I just hope you all had as nice and relaxing a Christmas as we did here!

I do love looking back at the year and sharing my personal favourite creations.  So, like my lovely friend Kim Dellow, I’m here to share my favourite makes from 2011.  Click the links above each pic to check out the original posts and get product details if you want them, and click on the photos to see a larger version.
